Arbory Float

A great place to kick start your weekend, my first experience of the Yarra riverfront in Melbourne was on a Friday evening. As I walked down the river promenade the atmosphere was pulsing with music from local bars and Pubs. Our first stop was the Arbory Bar and Eatery ‘s Afloat.  A nautical themes pontoon moored aside Platform 13 of Flinder’s Street Station its gives you a 360 degree view of the river like nowhere else in Melbourne. Bustling with office goers and party hoppers alike the Arbory afloat is also well known for its brilliant Australian Food. You can dig into wood fired oven pizzas or fresh sea food and enjoy an extensive cocktail menu!

Magherita Pizza

We tried the Aperol Spritz which seemed to be a favorite of the local Australian crowd and with good reason. As it started to drizzle, we were tempted by hot pizza. We opted for the Classic Magherita a winning combination of Tomato, Buffalo Mozzarella , Basil and Parmigiano Reggiano ( Parmesan)

Munich Brauhas

During the later half of my visiti, I also visited other river front eateries closer to Southern Wharf. Plus 5, a boutique cocktail and Tapas bar caught my attention due to its eclectic menu and very comfortable looking wicker chair seating just off the River. The other was Munich Brauhaus a German Themed Café   which boasts of number of German Biers and traditional German Food.  Take walk down the promenade and choose from the and array of restaurants that offer some of the Best Food in Melbourne

The Press Club, Melbourne

The Press Club

The next afternoon was reserved for our much awaited lunch at the Press Club, the flagship venue for chef and restaurateur George Calombaris of the Master Chef Australia fame. We opted for the 5 course degustation and food was a true reflection of his greek heritage while the local Australian Produce was the star of every dish. Each dish was not only spectacular to look at but out did the previous course in taste, if that’s even possible. A bit pricey and therefore if only frequented by the people on special occasion or like food & travel blogger like me, (who had to scrounge and save for a eons to eat at a place like this)

Main Course of Pasta
A true representation of Melbourne food, the food at the Press Club is beautiful fusion of Greek cooking techniques and the best of local Australian produce. My favorite course was the smoked eggplant on a bed of beetroot

The second course in our #5course #degustation menu @thepressclub in @visitmelbourne was smoked #eggplant on a bed of #beetroot and cheese cooked in the traditional #greekstyle with hot ashes. Using the #localproduce like #beetroots #australiancheese and tge greek methods the dish was visual stunning and delight to all our senses. The service was immaculate and unobtrusive. A secret tip is to order for tap water, say no to the tea offered at the end of the meal and tipping is not essential here even though you might be prompted to do so by the waiter.

Barbeque Like a Bona Fide Australian

Culinary trends make come and go in the Gastronomic City of Melbourne, but there is one cooking style that truly embodies Australian food and culture and it is the humble Barbeque. The City of Melbourne and it adjoining suburbs are dotted with plenty of public barbeques in pretty leaf parks and beautiful beach sides. All you need to do is load up on your meats and veggies, tomato sauce and then bask in the summer sun in while cooking up a meal in true Aussie style.
